Tips to (Unconsciously) Move More

Not having time can never be a valid excuse for an unhealthy lifestyle. We have gathered some tips to (unconsciously) move more throughout your day.

You can add more movement to your daily life in various ways.

At home

During housework

Why don't you see the annoying household chores as a good form of exercise? Put on a fun playlist and tackle your entire to-do list while dancing.

While watching TV

Instead of lazily sitting on the couch watching your favorite TV programs, you can also combine this with some exercises: step on the spot, take a skipping rope or do some strength exercises. The possibilities are very extensive. Maybe you can even install your exercise bike in front of the TV.

At work

Commuting

Don't you live too far from work? Then you can go to work by bike. Otherwise, you might be able to combine public transport with a walk to/from work. You can also choose to get off one stop earlier.

Do you really not like public transport? Then maybe park your car a little further and walk a bit. Maybe this way you can also say goodbye to parking stress.

Be sure to check with your employee whether you are not entitled to a walking or bicycle allowance.

During work

You can also add some extra movement while working. Take the stairs instead of the elevator and walk while talking on the phone. Instead of sending an email to your colleague, maybe you could just go there and ask them that way?

Do you have a sedentary job? Be sure to stretch your legs every hour. You can even combine this with some squats. Try to involve your strange-looking colleagues in this. It will only make work more fun!

Maybe you can even spend meetings or brainstorming sessions walking?

During the lunch break

Your lunch break may last longer than your lunch time. Use that extra time to exercise and clear your head. Go walking, cycling or practice another sport during your lunch break.

This way you can start the afternoon with a fresh head.

During everyday travel

In the commuting section we already gave some tips on how you can add extra exercise during your commute to work. You can of course also apply the same during everyday trips to the store. Especially if you don't have a long shopping list, you can leave the car aside and go on foot or by bike.

Even more tips

Other tips to exercise more:

  • Play with the (grand)children
  • Go for a walk with the dog
  • Go out and make the dance floor unsafe
  • Nice weather? Go do some work in the garden!
