Your 'Current Self': What Is It and What Is It For?

Do others notice faster than you that you have lost weight or got broader? By recording your 'Current Self', you can get ahead of them. But what is it? And why should you do it?

What is your "Current Self"?

The term "Current Self" is something I invented myself. It encompasses various data to record your current situation, including:

  • Your height
  • Your body weight
  • Your BMI
  • Your body fat percentage
  • Photos
  • Body measurements
  • Test results

All this data together forms your Current Self, which at a later stage will be referred to as the "Self of 1 January 2022".

In practice you will never be able to record all this data on the same day. Due to the accuracy of your test results, you cannot perform all tests on 1 day. Your Self of 1 January will therefore more likely be a combination of different Self-snapshots taken over different days.

What is the "Current Self" for?

Your Current Self makes it easier to compare yourself with a past Self. This way you see progress more quickly, which can give you a boost, grow your confidence and make you progress even faster.

How do you record your Current Self?

You can record your Current Self in various ways. In a notebook, an Excel file or whatever. The most important thing is that whatever you measure, you always measure it the same way.
