What Is Reverse Dieting and Why Should You Do It?

You have probably experienced this. Your diet is going well, you are losing weight, but as soon as you stop, those kilos come back. This is because you are forgetting the last step in your diet: reverse dieting.

What is Reverse Dieting?

Reverse Dieting is the final step in your diet. Instead of eating as many calories as you burn (calorie conservation), you will reduce your calorie deficit in several steps.

You will reduce your calorie deficit by 100-200 kcal every week. If you have been 500 calories below your calorie requirement for a few weeks, you will go to 300-400 kcal in the first week. Then to 100-200 and finally back to your calorie maintenance.

Why should you do Reverse Dieting?

During the period that you have lived in a calorie deficit, your body has also adapted. Your metabolism slowed down, causing your body to need fewer calories than before. If you immediately start eating the same number of calories as before, you will eat too much and gain weight again.

It is therefore better to proceed step by step and give your body time to adapt again.
